In the courses we offer, you will learn Kalaallisut, i.e. West Greenlandic, which is the national language of Greenland. It is the language spoken in the vast majority of Greenlandic towns you find on the west coast. Kalaallisut is spoken in places such as Nuuk, Sisimiut, Aasiaat, Ilulissat and Qaqortoq.
If you are going to East Greenland or Thule, Tunumiisut (East Greenlandic) and Inuktun (the Thule dialect) will be the spoken dialects respectively.

All courses take place exclusively online. You will thus be able to participate regardless of where in the world you live. We have chosen to do this because there is a lack of Greenlandic courses available globally.
Also, note that this course is not 'live', there will not be a teacher directly present when you watch the course lessons. Instead, you have access to prerecorded video lessons, which you can watch whenever suits you, your work schedule and your family best.

There are various reasons why someone would like to learn Greenlandic, some people are going to visit Greenland for the first time in their life, others have work commitments in the country, while others again have a keen ear for languages and a healthy curiosity for countries and cultures different to their own and simply want to learn something different than the major languages out there.
Whatever your reason for learning Greenlandic is, we welcome you here! So yes, you can easily get something out of a course, even if you have no plans to travel to Greenland (and never say never, maybe you will end up there one day). A warm welcome to you too!

In order to complete the courses, you need a computer or laptop that can play video and audio, and you must have access to the Internet. Note, however, that the course may not work optimally on mobile at this time (we are working on the matter!)
You also need access to a printer, so you can download and print the written material that comes with the online course.
In addition, a good amount of goodwill to learn is recommended.

The courses are taught by Naja, who is an enthusiastic and talented teacher.
Naja herself is half Danish and half Greenlandic, and grew up in Qaqortoq, South Greenland. She thus has personal experience with standing between two very different cultures and two very different languages; Greenlandic and Danish. She also studied in Canada and the UK, and is well versed in representing Greenland and showing it in a positive and personable light.
She has also taught in-person Greenlandic language classes for adults.
With her background and insights, we are sure you will quickly notice her positive presence and ability to engage you in the Greenlandic material.
